Place each of these into its own <DIV2>. "a" text: pages 151-174 "b" text: pages [175]-176 and even-numbered pp.178-210 "c" text: odd-numbered pages [177]-211 5. The sixth <DIV1> (pp.215-240) contains two separate versions: the "A" ('Barlaam & Josaphat aus Ms Vernon') and "B" ('De sanctis Berlam & Josaphat aus Ms. Harl. 4196') texts. Each text should occupy its own <DIV2>. "A" text: pages [215]-225 "B" text: pages [226]-240 Milestones Folio references appear in small type in the margin, like this: fol. 34 <MILESTONE UNIT="folio" N="34"> fol. 35 <MILESTONE UNIT="folio" N="35"> fol. 36 <MILESTONE UNIT="folio" N="36"> Some appear opposite lines of verse (in which case, place the tag at the end of the appropriate verse line); some are squeezed between lines of verse (in which case, place the tag at the end of the preceding verse line); and some seem to coincide with the beginning of headings (in which case they may be placed before the heading). Notes 1. Most notes are keyed to line numbers in the verse, usually beginning "V." ("verse ..."), e.g., p.26: V.729 him fehlt. Record as: <NOTE PLACE="foot">him <I>fehlt</I>.</NOTE> and place at the end of the appropriate line (i.e., 729). 2. Notes to the prose headings in the first <DIV1> begin like this "Prosa nach 750" [i.e., "prose after line 750"]; or "Prosa n. 1263:" or "Pr.n.1329:" Place such notes at the end of the prose heading indicated, tagged as <NOTE PLACE="foot">. 3. Some pages contain two sets of footnotes, e.g. page 87-93; [151]-174. Treat these in the usual way, but distinguish between them by supplying two different values for the PLACE attribute: <NOTE PLACE="foot1"> for the upper set; <NOTE PLACE="foot2"> for the lower set. 4. Some <DIV1>s begin with brief introductions (e.g., p. 150). Treat these in the usual way as notes attached to the main <HEAD> for that <DIV>.
