- Entire dictionary A-W(2) complete to a usable level of encoding.
- Virtually entire MED A-W(1) online now.
- Online version, corresponding to 107 fascicles of the print Dictionary, or about 13,900 pages, contains approximately 51,800 entries, 76,200 major senses, and 830,500 quotations, of which 555,000 have been linked to the corresponding entries in the HyperBibliography.
- New production (U-Z) is added to e-MED simultaneous with print publication, 1998-2001.

- SGML-encoded using a (near) subset of the TEI Dictionaries module.
- Denser encoding added in layers, with potential for further encoding later.
- Bibliographically harmonized and interlinked with the HyperBibliography.

- Searching the MED's vast collection of analyzed Middle English.
- Accessing the MED's work in ways impossible with the print Dictionary.
- Interlinking with other MEC components and with external resources.
- Revising the MED as information appears and opportunity permits.
