Information about Billings Wrench
Illustration from the an advertisement in the American
Machinist, 1883, shows an earlier form of the "Billings'
Patent Pocket Adjustable Wrench." (Source: Kenneth Cope,
Makers of American Machinist's Tools (1994), 197).
Of this same earlier model,
the Strelinger catalogue (1895) records, "The Billings and Spencer...
is drop-forged from bar steel, finished in a thorough manner,
and case hardened. The 4 inch is the most popular Bicycle wrench
ever made, and the larger sizes are just as desirable their way"
(p.51).
